I'm looking to get the best Computer with a monitor I can get with 1500 bucks total.

Here are the main uses this Computer will be for.

- Pay bills online

- Upload pictures & burn DVD’s from home DVD recorder/camera

- Surf the Web

- Download & burn cd’s & sometimes movies

- I'm not really a hardcore gamer, but would like a system that could handle it if I wanted to game.

That’s about it. I'd like to keep it aropund 1200 but 1500 is my roof if it made the cpu much better

Sorry to be such a newbie, just didn't know where to ask this question.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks!

Well, are you talking about building yourself or buying prebuilt? Building yourself is incredibly easy and is much cheaper.

Whatever is the best for my money....If one of you guys can come up with the ultimate system you would build for that money factor than I could have my buddy build it

checkout the Sticky that Praetor made. Its called Computer Specs 101 - 2007-04...
that is good for a start... you can always modify the list to suit your need...

Ill see if I can put anything together, but here are some key things you may want.

A core 2 duo processor.
A Dx9 graphic card, at the least.
A decent Hard Drive. Like 320gb+.
1gb ram at the least.

Building it is your best bet. Cause you can get more from it and understand your computer more.

If you are building I would suggest that instead of getting Windows you go with something like Ubuntu Linux. Unless of course you really need/want Windows. I actually like Linux better than Windows. I know that your original question was not about choosing an OS, but if you go with Linux that will be $200 or $300 that you save for another part of the system.

so according to praetor 's list I should go with this ??? will this do eveything I need, or do I need somthing different

$1400
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 [Conroe, 2.40, 4MB, 1066, BX80557E6600] ($308.00)
eVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR [nForce 680i] ($169.99 after $20.00 MIR)
Sumsung SpinPoint T-Series HD501LJ (500GB, 7200, 16MB, SATA3.0, NCQ) ($129.99)
Tuniq Tower 120 (35db) ($52.99)
NEC 7170A-0B ($30.99)
Foxconn FV-N88SMBD2-ONOC GeForce 8800GTS 640MB ($359.99 after $40.00 MIR)
Corsair XMS2 2GB PC2-6400 [2x1GB, [email protected]] ($151.00 after $50.00 MIR)
Spire SwordFin SP-9007B Case ($54.99)
OCz GameXStream OCZ700GXSLI [700W, 12V@18+18+18+18, 20+4] ($124.99 after $25.00 MIR)
$1382.93
The extra allocation here goes to an upgraded CPU cooler, bringing the harddrive back to 500GB as well as a new motherboard (and also switching to RAM that generally works better with that board) and a significant PSU upgrade.

Praetors systems are very good so I would go with that one as it seems fairly well balanced and excellent value for money.:)

That doesn't include a monitor, or Operating system. The graphics card would be a bit overkill.

Id go with a 7950 or x1950 or 8600 instead of an 8800 as this would cut a lot of costs so you could buy windows if wanted
