The Magic Formula to Fix da CPU

ya... here is the formula to fix your cpu

1 solder, 3 bucks,
1 pin from a random cpu, 2 bucks,
10 min for a mexican guy to solder the pin from the random cpu onto your cpu, 50 bucks,
Having your old laptop back, catching up with your guildies on wow, finally being able to study for your math finals... priceless.

Personal experience?

Soldering a pin onto a CPU, a small little P4 at that, would take EXTREME presicion and a soldering iron with a VERY sharp tip. I dont recommend doing it, unless your VERY precise with soldering. I personally dont think im that good, but i can solder peices onto boards ok.

And paying $50 for a mexican dude, a P4 cost about $50, i paid $50 for the Northwood i just bought.

I dont know....i was only missing about 3 pins off my old Pentium 133 and it didnt work. Im pretty sure 90% of the pins are used....or else they wouldnt be there.
The majority of the pins are used for power and while losing one of them isn't good, it normally still works. If a pin breaks off that's used for something else it's a safe bet you've got a new keychain.

Im still in the process of making my old AMD 386 into a keychain! I got all the pins off, now i just need to drill the hole. I already made one out of my Pentium 233 but i lost it.

ya... the computer is definitely not functional without that pin... the fan would blow, the monitor would be powered up too but you can't see anything, and the system won't come online... so yap... lesson learned.

lol well, out of what, 300 some-odd pins? 3 dont sound like alot lol.

It was the old Socket 7, i believe they had 321?

3 dont sound so big does it?

you should not need to do anything, yes you should not run around breaking pins off cpu;s :D , but my dell dimension 8200 from 2002 has its socket 478 -4 .253 ghz cpu, missing 2 pins and it works fine :o

hmm... glad to see that you like greg martin too liquidshadow, he is one of my favorite digital artist around heh.

Yea, there is no point paying for a whole new pc over one broken component, just get yourself a lovely new CPU and you'll be up and running in no time! :D

Or if it works, even better :)
