yup that is definitely a possibility but im not sure how you can do that...
considering that external drive may have a different structure than internal drive and hence ripping it apart may not be feasible...
 
ive done that witha 120 GB HDD< its easy.. just take the front panel off, take off the side screws, and take off the cables, your done. but tats my case... others are probably different

all it is a normal hdd inside a case with a hdd power cable and idle cable just screw it part, take it out, then boom you have your self a 1tera hdd :D
 
i bought 1tb worth of space from newegg and it is only 200 dollars :) i rather have 2 drives than 1. imagine a 1tb drive failing and it is filled with stuff :)
