plz forgive me I'm on my way to work.. so if this is a repost, again, I'm sorry. But is vista full of bugs and will all the future (next two years) games require vista? I don't mind getting vista but I don't wnat to get it when it's full of bugs.

Thanx

Vista isnt full of bugs, its the fact that alot of software isnt compatible with it. Actually I shouldnt say alot but things like SolidWorks 2006, Nero, etc... Dont work. Its not as much as you think and most of them patch with Windows Update. So your answer is no, it doesnt have alot of bugs. To tell you the truth, I've had less problems with it then I have with XP. Thats just me defending it though, I find it faster and more efficient. Also its more clear.

As to answer your question about games, Direct X10 is coming out sometime by the end of the year. This is going to be a major increase in performance and productivity for games. I wouldnt doubt that a new Graphics Card should be upgraded, but it should bring amazing performance for your graphics card. Games will eventually require Vista... But look at it now, some games still only require Windows 2000 and few need at least XP. I dont see much changing (Except halo 2 for pc, thats vista only).

Vista has more incompatibility issues than you would expect. If you do try and use it or get it now, I suggest you check your programs that you use the most first. Make sure they will work and run on Vista. As for the games, most likely they will require Vista because it is the only windows os that supports DX10 at the moment; which most games developed in the future will probably be running on.

its not full of bugs, jsut alot of incompatible hardware and software. but im fine with it really , just need to find patches and drivers.

If you are thinking about getting Vista I say hold off untill SP1 rolls out and all the bugs with adapting to the new SP are fixed.

XP is still fine, right?

Im currently on Vista and have had quite a few problems already (I only got my laptop a month ago)
But I know next to nothing of computers so I dont understand why these things happen:

1) When I go to play Oblivion I get a message saying "Oblivion has stopped working" then "Oblivion needs to close". So now Ive downloaded a thing called Oldblivon which allows me to play Oblivion but the graphics are worse and sometimes it starts to get a little slow.

2) I downloaded MSN Messenger but when I open it, after I put in my password and click enter I get a message saying "MSN Messenger has stopped working" then "MSN Messenger needs to close" Ive found out that if I right click on the MSN Messenger icon and click "run as administrator", it will work fine.

3) Ive picked up a virus or something a few days ago (something called "W32.Myzor.FK@yf" as the warning message calls it) (Ive posted about it in the Internet Security part of this forum) and around the same time, another problem started that didnt happen before. As soon as my laptop gets to the desktop, I get a message saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working" then "Windows Explorer is restarting".
Then my screen sort of flashes. After about 3-5 seconds, the message comes up again and repeats the process over and over and over.
When the screen flashes, most programs that where open / opening will close and if i try to open them again, as soon as the messages have come up and the screen flashes, they close again(the only two I know to stay open so far is Norton Internet security and Internet Explorer) and 3-5 seconds isnt alot of time for me to do anything unless i want to go into Norton or come into Internet Explorer.
Ive also posted about this problem but was told by someone that they dont think its due to the virus but to a software problem.

If anyone could provide any info on my last problem / have experienced this / know how to get rid of this anoying problem, ANY help / info would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I have faced no bugs at all with Vista Ultimate 32bit. There were some software incompatibility issues, but they were soon fixed and updated for Vista for the issues I had with.(Dell software-drivers, Razer mouse driver, etc.)

The closest or what I assumed a bug was when I installed L*mew*re and ran it, my Window Color changed from Windows Aero to Windows Basic, which was resolved after downloading the latest version of Java, since it runs on Java platform.

if only they made the home basic edition a bit better, in terms of running damn fast on older computers so users would at least choose that over xp, but they didnt.
as for vista in general i think it will take time for everyone to upgrade their hardware and then finally make the move. i still think it uses a lot of resources but in a few years when we all have new hardware i wont be as bad. im sure xp had these problems when it was first released.

when sp1 comes out, more drivers are available and we have upgraded out hardware it will be a different story. as for what microsoft have planned im not sure.

Pamela. :)

What is the difference between bugs and incompatability issues?

I would guess that a bug is the program (or OS) doing something you don't wont it to do. But for incompatability to not be a bug, would that mean MS intended vista not to be compatable?
