Doubled+ My RAM from 1GB to 2 1/2 GB & My Internet Speed Improved Greatly!

On a whim, I doubled and then some, my RAM on my HP Media Center Desktop (HP M260N) from 1 GB to 2 1/2 GB on my XP System (4GB is maximum RAM).
My Internet Speed, which was decent before on Roadrunner Cable, became superfast. So at least in my case, Memory did affect Internet Speed/Page Loading significantly. My Hard Drive is 120 gb of which about 115 GB is free.

I found an excellent place online to purchase Memory at www.memorystore.com. This is an unsolicited endorsement of them. Their Web site is excellent matching the applicable Memory to your computer & they offer both their own Manufactured Memory & that of other Manufacturers. There was a huge difference in price between the 2. I bought 2 1GB RAM Modules of their Brand for only around $160 or so. The RAM obviously works great. Their Customer Service is Excellent as their technical department did a great job in answering my questions & explaining things to me. The good thing of upgrading is you can sell the RAM your replacing on Ebay so your overall upgrade costs are even lower.

Do you have anything other than XP on your HDD :P

Lol, there is a lot of space there :)

i have a 230GB partition which i stick everything else on and a 20GB partition for my OS, the OS partition has 3.12GB left and has stayed like that for a while but my 230GB is down to 8.34GB lol, like no space :D

yea you should notice huge difference specially when u doing multiple task as well. 2g is the minimum req for most dual core user, if they dont want any lag while doing mutliple stuff at once.

Yeah, Thats true, like having a game and MSN open, I know it isn't much, but it all helps.

By the way, Nice video card ;)

No I Don't Game But Multi Task Alot

I don't do any gaming but do multi-task alot, meaning burning & downloading at the same time, web browsing & word operations- if you consider that multitasking.

I actually surprised myself & put the RAM in by myself on the desktop. It wasn't quite easy as it looked or the guy at the Memory store said- he stated that if I can put Memory into my Thinkpad Laptop (which is extremely easy), it would just take me 10 minutes on my desktop. Wrong, it took around an hour. I admit if I had to do it again, I could do it in less then half an hour because I now know what to do by experience. I had to take the fan out which took me a while to do even though it was really easy because I didn't know what to do initially, unscrew the side panel of the desktop which again was easy but wasn't easy at first because I didn't know what I was doing & then release the old memory which was easy & put in the new memory which was really hard because of the limited spacing to do it & lining up the memory wasn't that easy because it was hard to see where to line it up. That part would still give me a hard time to do again. If I had more money, I'd go to the 4 RAM Maximum. The one thing I was shocked about was HP, used different brand of 256 Memory & not the same brands.

I am really pleased that the RAM sped up my internet & also made booting up and loading of the programs faster- Norton's Anti Virus seems to slow down the loading process. As a result, I may try to get a "new" Thinkpad that can handle at least 2 GB of RAM instead of 1. As I said, replacing memory for the Thinkpad is extremely fast & easy.
