Can I use an OEM for my own PC?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering If I could use an OEM for my own PC? It is really cheap, and I don't need all that documentation. Could I just buy the OEM of Vista and install it on my own PC without being a system builder? Does it have to be the first installed OS?

All I want is Business edition of Vista for the cheapest price possible. All the support is on the net, so an OEM would be perfect.

will be fine

yes, you can use an O.E.M. version of Vista just fine. O.E.M. stands for original equiptment manufacture, and it is generally bare bones software/hardware which doesn't usually include any manuals/cables and in the case of the vista software, will be tied into the first motherboard it is installed on and can not be transferred to a new system. if you are building your own system, you are your own OEM.

We had a thread like this before with a guy and him wanting to use the XP he had on his old Dell.

It is Illegal.

To clarify my post, I was answering DrCuddles question "WHAT IS OEM" and pointed him to a previous post that has an unfortunate "illegal" name in it.

In this instance I don't think there is anything illegal.:)

There shouldn't be any problems, maybe some hardware but other than that it should be fine

Note: not that hardware issues is going to happen but since it's windows there could be a chance :p .
