Which Cpu is best for hardcore gaming?

E6600 Intel for life.

Kent.

Core 2 Duo E6600 by far

both great decisions lol, iam very happy with my E6600, runs circles around AMD at the moment. although, when barcelona comes out, Intel better pull up their socks...

Stay Strong Intel!! lol.

imo, it doesnt really matter which brand i buy, whether it be AMD/Intel, or ATI/Nvidia, either way i go for which ever is best at the time. hence the Intel/Nvidia combination.....

Master Mind

Why not just an e6400 and overclock? Why pay extra money for nothing better when you can get better with the e6400 and just OC.

You are not up to date, there is an E6420 now, with 4Mb of L2 cache. Anyway, why not get the E6600 and OC more?

The extra 2mb of L2 cache doesn't make that much of a difference ya know... The pricing is reflective of this. Also do you mean to suggest an e6600 can overclock farther than an e6400? :P

Intel is best as of now. But that will change in a few months when AMD releases their new chip. I believe its July for the release. Id wait till then....

But i have a 3800 X2 and gaming with it is perfectly fine, course im only using a 7300 as of now, but iv ordered an 8800GTS 320mb.

Well, to tell you the truth you won't see a difference in either CPU.
I built two identical computers except one has a 6800 quad core and the other an x2 5600+. Obviously different mobo but everything was the same (hdd, gpu, ram, sound card, etc.).
But anyways crisis played at around 90fps when using a 8800GTX 768mb version.

Yeah, the higher multiplier, 9x on the E6600 is better than the 8x on the E6400.

Doesn't prove your point. A higher multiplier makes it easier to overclock sure, but you have to remember that you can raise the fsb... Now the fsb wall may be a problem, sure, but you don't usually see those cept in the 7 multi 6300.
