i had no idea where to post this problem, i just assumed it had to do with my video card. heres my problem: i will be playing a game not really the visually demanding(N64 roms) and then my screen will turn black and then a white box will pop-up and say " Going to Sleep" then it disappears. and the only way i can get it out of that black screen is to restart it.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow,~2.1GHz
Memory: 768MB RAM
VideoCard: RADEON 9600 PRO Family

any help will be appreciated

That would normally sound more like a power options message. Once you right click on the desktop and click the properties item a screen with several tabs for themes, desktop, screen saver, and settings will appear. When you open the screen saver tab look for the power options button at the bottom half of that section and click on that.

The following screen will have dropdown lists for each item like hard drives, monitor, and system where you simply choose "never" for each and click the apply button. This should prevent the hibernation messages from appearing.

Do you have anything scheduled to start up at a certain time or have auto update notifications enabled? Another problem often seen is having antivirus programs or firewalls running in the background when gaming. The usual advice seen is to exit or disable those from auto loading with Windows when planning a gaming session. Some are known to cause rather strange problems at times.

Maybe its a psu problem ?

Having seen a different problem with sidden system restarts and game locks on the last build one thing to consider is the temps especially the cpu since this is seen during a gaming session. If you don't have a temp program or the hardware monitor seen on most newer boards out a freeware like SpeedFan could alert you to this type of problem. The "going to sleep" could also point at an overheating protection circuit on that model board. SpeedFan is free to download at http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

I'm sorry but I believe discussion regarding roms is illegal and against forum rules.

the actual emulator is not illegal because it can be used to create games on that type of platform. However transferring an existing game into a rom is illegal. So, to review, emulator=legal, ROM=illegal

I think you posted on the wrong thread here. The discussion here is on a possible hardware problem.

Sorry for the confusion does that help clear it up?

That will while all that wasn't necessary. That was being discussed on another thread there. Meanwhile we'll have to wait to see if the hardware situation has mproved here.

With the older Socket A case here memtest reported all kinds of errors on good defect memory even the current pair of 1gb dimms used on a newer build. The matched pair of 512mb Corsair xms series were thought at that time to the cause for games and other programs seeing locks and crashes. It turned out that the cpu fan simply quit one day several months after seeing things improved by removing and freshly installing sound not video drivers. But 10min. wouldn't see high temps that fast if you just started the system and were seeing this. Are you running a 256mb with a 512 or three 256mb dimms there? A possible mismatch of memory would be a thought there.
