I just installed 4x 1gb of ram in each slot when i load xp it only shows 3.12gb of ram how i thought windows xp pro allows 4 gigs max.

We are, it's XP 32bit. Technically x86 (IA32) can be 32bit or 64bit now although it originally was to be 32bit only.

what about windows vista 32bit edition will 4 gigs work on that? If so will it be safe to get vista 32 bit? have anyone use it? is it better then xp pro?

I have vista home premium 32 bit and I was looking to upgrade to 4GB, but I called up HP before I decided to order and they all said 32 bit OS's can only handle upto 3GB. So then I googled it to find out that most can get 3.25GB to 3.33Gb but thats it.

Whats the max amount of ram does windows vista 64 edition uses? if it uses 8gigs max then my 4 gigs was not enough for my future upgrade which is

quad core cpu = 1 gig for each core.
2900xtx or the 8800gtx

and better psu

I guess Ill have to just use the 64 bit edition of vista:(

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but i've found out that a lot of drivers don't work with the 64bit OS for a while so I'd wait a few months and be happy with your 3.12GB until the drivers issues are over.
