Hi,
I'm building my computer (not for gaming) using PC6400 DDR2 RAM. Does it matter which RAM manufactuer I choose? I see Tiger Direct has a lot of different RAM units on sale should I go with a cheaper type or are the more expensive models better? Any feedback on OCZ, Cosair, US Modular, Kingston or Crucial - I was going to get the Crucial but was wondering is it worth the extra money? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

1st: Use Newegg.com, I love the Egg!!

If not gaming, go with Kingston ValueRAM, that is probably the best for non-gamers. Can you give me some links?

Different brands and manufacturers are just that - different manufacturers. in essence theyre basically the same, making the same products but they look different have different ranges and some of them have different CL timings, its like nike and addidas

No, quality and price. Those brands like Crucial, Wintec, A-Data, Super Talent, and Patriot are the well-known for having "mismatching" Dual Channel sticks. In other words, those are the ones I don't hang-around. The quality and price ratio make the reason for the "better buy".

Can you explain what you mean by mismatching dual channel sticks? As long as the RAM you get runs at the advertised speed/timings what's wrong if one stick may be slightly better than the other? You don't need 2 identicle sticks, you just need 2 that are the same size. There is no such thing as a dual channel stick of RAM, you simply have 2 sticks running in dual channel or 2 sticks in single channel.

Mismatched sizes, if they are just slightly off I heard you get random BSOD.

If it is not for Gaming - Transcend Memories are Quiet Good. We get Dynet here in Bangalore as cheap and best option - You can check prices on iterials.com - if it is available to you - Dynet is better Option.

It matters only if you are using it on server motherboards and memories are ECC / Registered. Mobos like EP2 and so on.
