help with usb ports

im posting this question for a friend. he has an older toshiba laptop and hes having problems with his rear usb ports. it seems the connection only works sometimes. his laptop is running good and the usb port that he has on the left side is working fine. can anything be done?

A good cleaning would help. Try cleaning it with a can of compressed air, while the computer is turned off. Inspect it closely to see if any of the 4 contacts is corroded or covered with dirt.
