I already have two servers, a website and teamspeak purchased for a clan I not long created with a friend of mine so unfortunately I couldn't participate in this even if I wanted to :\. Plus of course you guys would have to take into consideration the nationality of most people, so I'm guessing this would be strictly an american clan etc?

Breaks.

Just a little clarification but Steam>tools>dedicated server is not what your looking for. You need the program HLDS and you need a couple admin programs like Mani plugin. How do I know? I hosted a server for about a week when my map came out. Since then my server has been out of order, its needs some ram and a hard drive. I have a 716kb up connection, almost a 1mb. Averaging 30kb per person, I could host 15-20 people per match...

Anywho, thats just reference for anyone else who wants to make a server :D.

Oh, and I would be all for a clan. :)

NOt really strickley american just english speaking people..

I'd love to join and be a part of a CF CSS clan/server, but I dont know how many people would be willing to pay for it.

the pc needed to run a c/s server doesnt need to be that powerfull the most important thing is your upload speed eg an upload speed of around 400kb will allow around 7 players any more and you will get lag, its also a good idea to have a ftp site like mediamax.com for your maps so the download to clients is quicker. Try this admin mod aswell its good for helping control the server .http://www.mani-admin-plugin.com/

I am terrible..absolutley terrible at CS:S but if we get a server up I will be glad to play with you guys. Perhaps you guys could show me the ropes. FPS is not my thing, but I had a copy of HL2 GOTY edition, and put on CS:S. It's a good game, is it still pretty popular?

I ran a HLDS several years ago on my DSL line, and I think I had possibly 6 to 8 people on my server who lived in my area total before it lagged like crazy. I had sdsl that had 768k synchronous connection. This was back in year 2000 when broadband was still kind of new. The c/o was about 3 blocks from my home when I lived in Denver.

It will be way better to host it with a company that does hosting. not to mention, all connections are split, so if someone is running HLDS and connecting to it on the same network, the bandwidth is already split then and there. Last time I tried connecting to my HLDS via LAN it wouldn't let me if I put the server up on the net.

Also, DHCP is going to be a problem, you better keep track of what external IP you have, and then configure your router to let it work, or make it DMZ.
