ATI's HD series

I was wondering if in the future do you think that the ATI HD series will actually compete with the geforce 8000 series? I was thinking about buying a new video card and since the ATI cards are now dx10 I was thinking of getting one of them cards. Has anyone tested one out yet? Or give me something to help my pick be narrowed?

HD2900XT performs overall better than 8800GTS but worser than 8800GTX . However, it consumes more power than both, and it produces a lot of noise from what I heard.

ATI's cards will truly shine when dx10 games comes out. ATI has always had an advantage on technology, benchmarks are well for people who care about benchmarks. ATI's cards make your games look better...period. They also provide much better quality for other kinds of video rendering other than games. If you want to say you have more FPS than someone, sure get a Nvidia, but if you want a better quality image to view, but ATI.

For your information, HD2900XT doesn't produce better image quality than 8800 series.

They're hotter too(which also means less overclocking ability on stock cooling)
