I am just wondering about compatibility. this is my first time building a computer, so please help me! Reason why I selected amd is there is new processor coming out soon, and I would like to upgrade to new AM3 processor. So I was thinking about getting cheaper AM2 processor, not 6000. As far as intel goes, they have huge price drop in april and there will be one in july, so I would just get amd. I am also sure that there is also price drop in amd too, but new am3 processor is attracting me more than intel. So please give me more advice and your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Well AM3 will be all-new so there'll be no point splashing out on an AM2 system really if you want to upgrade. At the moment Intel has stormed the market and LGA775 is likely to stay for a while.

if ur willing to spend that much on cpu/mobo u should go with a C2D build as right now unless u go sub $100 intel pretty much rapes everything that AMD has out on the market.

STay with AMD so you can Upgrade to AM3 then intel will be crying :)

that makes absolutly no sense considering that not only is it probably coming out in 10+ months, but also a different socket, so in effect if doesnt matter at all what mobo/cpu he gets, wheter it's AMD which uses AMD2 or INTEL which uses VGA 775

AM3 wont be coming out until April 2008, and I doubt that AMD got that right. If you specifically want to go with Intel, then do so, I have a Quad-Core (see signature). I would say to you to stick with the AMD, and use an AM2. Next year, whenever it comes out, you could easily upgrade from AM2 to AM3, if you were also willing to upgrade the motherboard. With the decrease in what its worth, you'll probably only get back half what you paid for the AM2 and motherboard, but the money could be put towards the AM3. You would be wasting money to buy a new PC now, if you wanted AM3, so basically, you need a time machine and more money.

lol " a time machine and more money"... now THATS what i NEED... but anyways, as a diehard AMD fanboy talking to you here, dont get AMD... intels are far better at the moment, and currently intel is not showing a large leniency towards changing mobo sockets like AMD keeps doing.

Everybody keep talking about AM3. AM3 wont be coming out it late 2008 if that!! (AM2+) is coming out later this year. Processors for the AM2+ socket will run on a AM2 board. You will only lose the Hypertransport 3.0, it will run on Hypertransport 2.0 on a AM2 board plus you will lose the ability to raise and lower the voltage and Mhz on each core individually on a AM2 board. When they go to AM3 in 2008 it will have DDR3 support.
