if the site is successful there is a lot of money to be made... advertisement being one of the larger sources of revenue... Also sponsorship deals and hosting events will get you money... but really, unless you have the cash to invest BIG TIME, thend ont bother, a small time forum hosted on a £20 a year server running phpBB sint gonna get you very far

cool man! depends if you hit the jackpot really
yeah ive been thinking of starting one and nothing to do with computers but one in general!
thanks man![]()
Would you add a site to it? Like a main page, with other links, and blogs, articles etc, etc. but have a link to the forum? Or is it just a forum.
tbh im not sure i think it would go the full way and have all of that! do you have any forums etc?
i spend half my life on em so why not make one![]()
I'm thinking that you're kinda hinting towards the infamous XT* forum, as well as many others, where people create a forum and get their friends to join, and thats it. You never really get any new members.yeh, sometimes you can come up with an idea that is truly revolutionary, and everyone suddenyladores, if that happens then your in the money, also, the domain name, it has to be good ro else your dead in the water before you've begun

I couldnt say a figure on how much money, it also depends on what your costs are, some people manage to bag free hosting from competitions and things liek that, I had adsnese ad's (from google) on a site (not a forum) which only averaged about 10 unique hits every 5 days.... Inthe first month the adsense account was up £25, in this case it didnt even cover the hosting costs, so obviously, you would need a fair few more visitors than this site got to be able to make any money.Also a question for dragon how much is serious money to get a forum going and how much knowledge do you need? is it kind of like websites or how is it based
I wasn't, but now that you mention it, that is quite a good example of a small time forum that was never really going anywhere. In the short time i was admin there it was apparent that the other admin (kyle) was only in it for the money, i'm not sure how he stands now, but we sure as hell didnt make any money when i was there.[-0MEGA-];673349 said:I'm thinking that you're kinda hinting towards the infamous XT* forum, as well as many others, where people create a forum and get their friends to join, and thats it. thanks Halian! sounds a very interesting experience you had and thanks for the advice.
it'l be a music/whatever forum really and its something i actually know about which will help!
what was the forum you were admin for?
I've been trying to make forums but let me tell you this:
There is almost no way you can have a new forum where there is a lot of members. Why?
Simply because there are TOO MUCH forums on internet. There are forums for any topic, you want to make one in general, well guess what, there are thousands of other forums like that. ( even I have one like that
but I only have 5 members...just friends
)
