If you want to format your HD you will have to run the recovery CD. I just had to do that last night because of some spyware. To format the HD, just boot off the CD and begin the repair. It's pretty simple.

alright so i put in the recovery cd then reboot and when it says to boot from cd press any key i do that, then i wait and it loads a bunch of junk and then it says i can continue, press r for repair, or continue without xp, so i hit continue the first one and then it says did not detect a hard disk drive and i have to reboot

When you start up your computer does it even start up Windows?

yes i can, are you talking about putting the disc in/loading it when im on the desktop? cause i did that and all it has is worthless crap and install xp i didnt find any formating or simlar things

I'm not sure if this will work or not. I just uploaded my working "mcrdsvc.exe" file from Windows XP Media Center Edition to the internet. Here is the link http://files-upload.com/266725/mcrdsvc.exe.html. Try replacing it with the file "C:/Windows/ehome/mcrdsvc" by renaming the old one to something like mcrdsvcOld and then put the one that you downloaded in the same folder. If that doesn't work I'll try and help with system recovery.

should i just put it onto a usb drive or cd cause im on my brothers computer due to the fact that my comp isnt getting any internet

are you using any antivirus with a fire wall I found a couple articles saying a firewall may block acess

well i let my dad try and fix it and now its screwed up so when i turn it on it loads up till it gets the the screen with the winows symbol and the dots running across the bar nears the bottom and it freezes so i have no clue what to do now.

Oh no! Bad idea! :D Try reinstalling windows again. If that fails maybe you should download a Linux live CD like Freespire and delete your partition and then add a new partition of the type NTFS and then you can run the recovery CD.
