Questions on Building My Own Computer

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I specifically came here to ask questions on building my own computer. I am in desperate need of a new computer because the current computer I have now is basically crap and seriously needs to be trashed.

I need a computer that I can run multitasking programs such as Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver, Sony Vegas, video editing, etc. I could also say that I'm a casual gamer, so I think a sufficient graphics card would do.

The problem, though, is that I have no clue which hardware would be best for what I will use this computer for. I'm also a poor student and need to be on a budget. I heard that if I do my research, I can get a nicely built computer for a lot less than buying a computer from Dell, etc.
Would anyone be kind enough to give me a specific list of parts I need to start building my own computer? I also do not plan on building this computer myself; I think I'll go to a computer deli or something and have them build it for me.
Let me know...thanks.

Can you tell us, what your budget would be? and if you are in the united states?
Yes, I'm in the United States. I'd say my budget would be around $1000, wouldn't mind if it was a couple hundred dollars above or even better--less. Thanks.

Meh i forgot to ask some other things like, you have an os already? or do you need monitor or mouse/keyboard?

Yeah, I'd have to say I'd need a monitor, mouse, and keyboard. And I'd probably need an OS for this new computer. BTW, I have 0 parts to even build a computer. Right now I'm just feeling it out and asking questions to see what it'd be like and what parts I'd need and stuff.

Question...for the operating system, could I get something cheap like Xandros Linux and then change my OS later on...?

This sounds like a stupid question, but does that list include internet connectivity ports, USB ports, etc. Also would I be able to add bluetooth to it?

Well for the os, you can but most of the stuff you plan to run it wouldn't run and for the internet connectivity, they're integrated in the mother board ( the 56k modem isn't included but well i doubt you'll need it since you probably have dsl or cable or wireless) and not really sure about the bluetooh.

Too add Bluetooth too the computer, all you will need is a Usb Dongle. There quite cheap nowa days.

Yes, It comes with Usb Ports.

Yes, It comes with ports to plug internet in (Its called ethernet)

No, it does not come with a 56kb/s Modem.

Okay, thanks so much for the help guys.

Does anyone know what the price range is to hire someone to build a computer if you give them the necessary parts, etc?

Its easy, just be logical, and take your time. I went into my first build knowing nothing except what each part did,and it turned out fine :)

That system someone built for you is a great system but you could save quite a bit of money on a few things. I would recomend a cheaper case that fits your style. No reason to get a $100 case with no PSU if you aren't going to be overclocking and need tons of cooling options. A $40 mouse and $25 keyboard? Why not just grab a $40 combo and be done with it.
