Halo 2 out Finally!!!

If I have Vista but dont have a DX10 card will I still be able to play Halo 2 or do I need a DX10 Videocard?

Technically, this is all you should need to run Halo 2:

Windows XP
pentium 3,4 or amd athlon 1500+
256 mb of RAM
64MB video card directx 9.0 compatible
(It did, after all, originally run on an xbox)

Yet for some reason, Microsoft recommends this:

Windows Vista
2 GHz or faster processor AMD (or equivalent)
1 GB of RAM
128MB video card directx 9.0 Compatible

So, to answer your question, no, you don't need DX10 but you still need vista.

To each their own i guess.. Console gamers and PC gamers seem to have such different taste.

i have a pc i built and an xbox i modded... my tastes are in rpg's and rts games, along with shooters like halo, that never gets old. im one of the few who still play morrowind, i think, so am i really so different? i think pc gamers and console gamers are very alike, the only differences are the mediums by which we okay. controllers and keyboards change the way games are scripted. the exact same game can feel two VERY different ways when played on a pc or on a console

Are you sure? It says it doesnt work on anything bus Vista.

I'm sure there will be a work around for the Vista requirement. If there is a will there is a way. ;) The graphics of Halo 2 I don't believe is reflective of what DX10 can offer and I'm certain that you DO NOT need DX10 to play it. I believe that its a market ploy to make people upgrade to Vista, that is that I think this whole Vista only cr*p is about.

I was just about to say that, lol.

Halo 2 is not a DX10 game, hence why theres really nothing special about it. But if Microsoft wanted to, they could make it look A LOT better with just DX9 graphics.

Which is why I smell a rat here. It certainly has the stench of a marketing strategy aimed at getting their Vista sales up. I'm sure there is at least some poor soul who is a die hard halo fan who would fork out on Vista just to play the game.

hey i play morrowind still its great even after like 3 years cause there are so many different variables too it. not just the mediums we paly through though also how we receive the games. i know personally peopl who have extensive sounds systems for there xboxs and itty bitty speakers that are like tweeters for there pc or low quaity head phones. there dispalys are really small on thre computer but their tvs are giant lcds, their out out is low quality yet they spent alot of money on a fast processor like 8gigsram etc. idk though thats obviously just those peopl but still the computer sounds and displays usualy arent as bifgas a tvs not saying some people dont have tv sized pc screen etcs

Lol.

What makes the Vista-only thing even stranger is the fact that a recent survey by Valve (using Steam) of over 300,000 people, found that less than 5% of them had Vista. Ofcourse, that leaves the question: how many people do Microsoft really think are going to be buying Halo 2??? Enough to offset the cost of the few hours (or possibly minutes) they spent porting it most likely!

Yea I know they didn't do to well on Vista mainly because they ALWAYS brag about their sales but they won't give a exact number of ACTUAL copies sold of Halo 2 PC so I think it was sad sales :)

Then again I bought Halo 2 so I guess that makes me a loser...but I got vista free from work so I guess that makes me a idiot instead :)

I have such high expectations for halo 2. The original was really nice, one of the few games that I have finished twice. The graphics was stunning for its time, and its such a disappointment that Halo 2's graphics the same if not worse than Halo 2. What a joke! The first DX10 game is such a disappointment.

It wasnt a DX10 game.

I know that its not a game that fully utilise DX10 but the fact that its Vista only makes it a DX10 game.
It doesnt utilize DX10 at all, hence why you can use it on a DX9 card. Just because it's Vista doesnt mean it utilizes DX10.

Windows XP has DX9, but you can still run DX8 games.

I see, maybe that is why its graphics sucks so much. Then that further support my theory that the vista only requirement is a marketing strategy. Halo 2 is a tool to increase the sale of the Vista operating system.

Whats a good word here, umm, DUH! Welcome to microsoft. :)

DX9 isnt why the graphics are bad, its just a cheap port of an old game. They raised the resolutions a bit, but thats about it graphically. They spent most of their time working out bugs from the xbox version. Example: most of us know the BXR or BXB cheats ;). They also had to get live and all other networking problems setup/fixed.

I'm talking about the PC version here. I would expect Halo 3 to come out on the XBOX 360 first. So stupid, I'm not going to get a console just to play Halo. ><
