Dell Computer Help

Hello everyone,

I have a Dell XPS 400. I've had it for a few years now and just getting a problem with it. My Norton Anti-Virus software is expired for a few weeks now so I don't have anything on ym computer to stop viruses and what not. While I was doing a report for school, I clicked on a link and it brought me up onto a dating website and I got a million pop-ups. While trying to delete them all I clicked onto one and it brought me to a pornographic site. I am not getting some pop-ups from AdultFriendFinder and some porn websites that I wish I didn't. I also get a pop-up that says IE has a bugging problem and I press OK and it takes away my toolbar at the bottem for a few seconds. Is there anything I can do to get rid of whatever I have? Should I 'ghost' my computer? I have SpyBot S&D but that isn't helping enough.

Thanks,

Yes, an easy fix would be to simply reload it...

However, if you'd like to try and fix it, also get Adaware and hijackthis. Run Spybot and Adaware in Safe Mode, then reboot, run hijackthis, scan and create a log, then post it here.

Sorry, I am not the smartest in the computer world. I would rather just reload it than. Is this done just by popping in one of the cd's that came with the computer?

There should also be a system recovery option in the start menu under "all programs". If you have to reinstall windows you'll lose everything that didn't originally come with your computer. On the other hand everything on your drive may be infected except for the factory recovery partition, so you're better off doing that. If there's no system restore option, start with the windows recovery disk, then install the drivers and applications. Good luck

It's a Dell, if you go down the reformatting route, you never know how it will react. My Dell has reacted badly, I hate Dell and will never buy another Dell PC.

There is no sytem recovery option under 'all programs'. If I sart up in safe mode, could I do it that way?
