why?

If you don't have the correct drivers installed for your graphics card then that would pose a problem. Although it wouldn't run fine for so many minutes before acting up, it would act up from the beginning (I assume). Install those drivers anyway, and use the temperature reading feature within it to tell us what your graphics card temp is please.

Also, do you know the temps of your other components? CPU, Mobo etc. Just to rule those out on heat.

What wattage is your power supply? 300w? 500w etc?

but why would it just freeze after already starting game play? every time.

Have you tried anything that we have suggested? And if so, why haven't you gave us the information yet? :) Temps etc.

It's overheating.. I don't know why everyone is recommending drivers and all because they do not have some magical 'cooling feature'.

Either your GFX card or your CPU is overheating.. Maybe try putting a household fan next to the case with the side door open and play.. If it works fine then it definitely is overheating.

Well, if the guy haven't tampered with the card it shouldn't be overheating. A 6200 is not a high-end card, I have seen ones with just a heatsink.

There are many reasons why a card can overheat and tampering doesn't have to have occurred in order for most of them to happen. For example, I have fitted a brand new card into a PC, switched it on and the card overheated dramatically, I opened the case up after having noticed this and a lump of dust and what not had fallen into the fan, got blown around the vent and blocked up the exhaust of the heatsync for the graphics card. Causing it to rapidly overheat etc.

I never said it was the card overheating, I just want to rule that out :)

Alright, so far there has been a lot of back and forth over what is to be done, but nothing has been done. Let me assist.

INSTALL THE CORRECT DRIVERS

It really doesn't matter if the drivers are causing the problem or not, the fact is that for a card to operate properly, you need the correct drivers. That should be the first thing done once the card has been installed, and even if it is not causing this particular problem, which I believe it is, it will cause other problems.

Here are the drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/licen.../94.24/94.24_forceware_winxp_english_whql.exe

Download. Install. Restart. Play some Half-Life.

it is over heating. i have sat here with a fan pointing into the inside of my computer playing non-stop, thank you very much. What can i do now? about keeping the computer cool without holding a massive fan up every time i want to play

Firstly have you checked all of your fans within your computer? Making sure that none of them are clogged up with dust / hair / other sorts of crap. Do that. Then, install the correct drivers as mentioned above. Then install PC Wizard 2007 and check your temperatures using that to see what exactly is overheating. As well as telling us the rest of the temperatures to see how hot everything else is running. Do that please.

Breaks.

If a brand new 6200 is over heating, something must be wrong. Besides the fact that a new card shouldn't be over heating if you have decent air flow at all, a 6200 shouldn't put out much heat anyway... I'd say you got a shoddy card.
