diaplay problems on 32" Sharp Aquos

I recently upgraded to a 32'" Sharp Aquos as my computer screen. Most games run great e.g., the new Tomb Raider Anniversary. DVD playback is excelent. However almost all the text on Windows desktop is really blurry or should I say very pixalated, it is like there is no anti-aliasing. No problem with max anti-aliasing in games. It is almost impossible to read web pages without zooming in with IE. Even the icons on the desktop are pretty bad. Windows Vista Aero is completly disabled. Running Windows Vista Home Premium, on a high end CyberPowerPC.com rig with Dual Nvidia 7950 gt 512MB, 750W power supply, 2GB ram, 200GB HDD, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual-Core, Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe. Drivers are up to date. I connected the screen with a DVI to HDMI cable. Resolution is set to 1768*992 resolution at 30 Hrtz. 60Hrtz is not listed with that resolution. 1920*1080 zooms in too much and cuts off the edges. DPI change doesn't fix problem, nor font size. Please help...! I can barely read what I am typing...

I'm by no means an expert but the problem sounds like your resolution isn't high enough for that large of a screen. Not sure how you would fix that without the normal experimentation, but it almost certainly sounds like a resolution issue.

well, the obvious question here would be "what's the resolution of the monitor?"

my guess is that it's NOT 1768x992

so set the resolution to the CORRECT setting for the screen

resolutions on LCD's are not optional. set it to the CORRECT setting

What heyman said is correct, LCD's can be put on other resolutions other than their "native" setting, but it looks really bad (kind of like what you're describing...). The best thing to do is find out what the native resolution for that monitor is and set it there... One other question, that resolution you have it set at is for widescreen monitors, is that what you have?

It is a widescreen. Also, SLI is disabled, enabaling SLI makes the screen flicker and wont' run any games. I click on a game, the screen goes black and makes the computer restart, which then goes to the safe mode, normal mode prompt. Very strange. Is this problem fixable or did I just waste $1300 for the 32" and $500 for a second video card that doesn't work right? I had no display problems on the old 20" Syncmaster, and SLI run as it should. Please help, getting super frustrated.

well, it's not even a monitor, for a start

a tv is made for watching tv.

a computer monitor is made for use with a computer

they both use their own set of resolutions and refresh rates, which are entirely different

and lastly "it's a widescreen" isn't a sufficient answer to "what's the resolution"

if you don't know what you're doing, get someone else to hook it up for you

you don't even know enough about what you're doing to help us help you

we can only offer answers to questions, not miracles

With the information provided by Gamerofleet, I would kick the resolution down on the standard desktop screen to 1366 x 768 and see if that helps...

No luck with any changes to resolution, or DPI changes. However I did replace the DVI to HDMI cable with a component video cable, which did make the pixalation/blurriness somewhat better. Text is more legible now. Still can't get SLI to work properly though. Heyman421, I know what I am doing, I've built many computers in my day. P.S. that was one nice run on sentence there.

You're SLI problem could be a few things. It could be the drivers are incorrect or out of date. Did you enable SLI mode in the Bios? It COULD be that you don't have enough power to run in SLI mode. What type of power supply do you have and what are the specs of voltage and amps? You can use this tool to help see if you don't have the power: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

The only thing I can think of with your monitor problem is also the resolution or the video card itself is not set to TV Out on the settings.

Also, 1336X768 it a kinda low resolution... just widescreen 1024X768. That would be why it looks pixelated.

Isn't 1336x768 kind of a high resolution and 1024x768 is lower or am I confusing something? The higher the resolution, the sharper the image correct?

Although a lower resolution might be good for him, say start at 800x600 and work his way up? Anyone?

For LCDs, you dont have a choice. It is the standard res of the monitor or it looks like crap. And no, 1336X768 isnt really a high res... it is widescreen TV, or something like that, not even HD.

Oh ok. I had no idea! So if he set the res correctly, the picture would be fine then?
