Hey guys, im wondering how Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit will run on:
-Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB

im going to get 2 of thoes, so 4 sticks of 1gb each making 4GB..
What will be different between running it @ 4GB compaired to 2GB

What's with the 3Gb memory barrier? One article that goes right into that is seen at http://www.dansdata.com/askdan00015.htm

Simply jumping from 32 to 64bit isn't a cure all for the problems seen when running more then 3gb of memory. It's not make and type that will have a bearing. But the information there gives a good overall view. The rest you will find out when actually running the system with 4gb and Vista 64bit.

In an actual response to your question, it will run great. The more RAM the better seems to be the case with Vista. Having 4GB compared to 2GB is like 2GB to 1GB in XP. Itll be great.

As long as you don't run into the problems outlined in the article there you should notice a good difference. But the comparison to moving up from 1 to 2gb is way off from simply increasing 2 to 4gb there. Once you have the basics covered and move from 1gb ro 2gb even Vista shows improvement. Vista simply grabs about 256mb more of the ram over XP.

Unless you are running CAD or some large graphics design application the common softwares and games don't generally use any great amount as some would think. The 32bit server versions of Windows often see 32gb plus memory there over the desktop versions. When getting past the 512mb barrier years back for 98 1gb of memory there didn't actually show any immense difference while smoothing some things out. That was seen in XP going from 1 to 2gb as well.

erm...he never asked about the barrier, nor is he even using a 32bit OS.
he's using vista premium 64bit, which can take upto 16gb of ram.

anyway, in reply to the origional post,
vista works beutifully with 4+ gb of ram.
while true there wasen't as much of a performance gain when going from 2 to 4gb as there was when going from 1 to 2gb, the gain is still very noticable. especially when multitasking. games run great, the pc is faster due to less hard drive access (less need for a pageing file, which really speeds up games)

with vista, its definatly worth having 4gb of ram.
and, i'm saying that from experience.

yeah i know it will be better, but what will run better?

With your system you can run 4gbs of ram just fine with Vista Premium 64bit. I have no idea what PCeye is going on about, ramble on and on and on! As far as preformance if your using up the whole 2gbs of ram and start using your virtual memory then 4gbs would help out. But if your system is not ever using more than 2gbs then you wont notice a difference.

The board supports up to 8gbs so I am pretty sure it has the memory remaping enabled in the bios, the 975 supports it.

yea, most motherboards can support 4gb + ram without trouble.
and if they have 4 slots, usually upto 8gb of ram.
