Laptop turns off by itself

Title says it all, really...It often happens nowadays, after being on the PC after long hours, it suddenly is off.
Can anybody tell me what's going wrong and what should I do?

Well

In many laptops, high temperatures cause laptops to shut down to prevent damage to the processor and all the accompanying hardware. It is always best to use the lappy on a solid surface and not on a carpet or bedsheet because very often, the lappy sinks in and the heat has no way to escape, builds up and causes overheating. Is this your case? Give it a shot.

Does it normally turn off when you bump or move it? That would be a bad power jack.

Otherwise, I would guess overheating as well, or maybe a bad PSU.

Just touched my PC, and realized that it was very very hot, although I have it on a table, with a mat over it.

Hmm

It does seem that temperature is to be blamed. Is hot air blowing from the laptop? Maybe the fan has died. Also check whether something is not obstructing it. Ideally, you should have the lappy on a flat, solid surface. If it's on a mat, try seating it on the table alone and see what that does.
