What brand does Dell use?

I have a dual drive setup on my Dell, one is CD-ROM and the other is a Samsung CD+/-RW. The Samsung is the only one that works and I think it is slaved to the CD-ROM, dumb decision on Dell's part. I have tried to look at the back of the drives and I don't see a diagram for the jumpers. Is there another setup besides Master & Slave? What brand is this piece of junk drive?

Thanks

I opened up my Optiplex for a looksie and it's a Sony drive inside, not sure if it'll be the same for yours but hey ho.

My 1100 came with an LG Drive which died about 6 months later :(

Possibly ask dell support line?

Last time I called I was on hold for 1 hour 31 minutes, so calling them is a huge waste of time.

I left the thing sitting, put in two new IDE Round cables, a 20Gb HDD I had salvaged. I took the HLDS or whatever cheap drives they use and left it in there to take up the drive plate. I took the Samsung drive changed the jumper to Master, hooked the new IDE cable up, and installed the HDD, put the other IDE channel to that. I got Windows install to come up and now it runs fast and smooth, way better than before. Of course, before I reformatted and reinstalled Windows, I did a disk wipe with Darik's Boot and Nuke.

So, yeah, a Dell optical drive is slightly better than a hole in the computer case, lol.

NO!! I hate cable select, if I had two I would use the good 'ol Master & Slave. My bad, you just reminded me that Dell didn't have those in M>S, they were CS, no wonder Windows wouldn't install with a wiped HDD.

I have a Dell Dimesion 4500 for my son. The optical drives are in Master/Slave. Cable select never would work for me. I always use master/slave with optical drives. With hard drives i use CS, with no problems.

I don't use IDE HDD's, I hate them. I like SATA, how is that Dell, I won't buy another Dell.
