Pcmcia Hdd

I have a 1.8" Toshiba 30GB hard drive (MK3006GAL) that seems to fit nicely into the PCMCIA slot on my laptop. I was a bit excited when I found this out, but then apparently Windows XP isn't recognizing it.

I tried finding some updated firmware for it, or a driver or something, but toshiba's support website wasn't much help.

Any ideas on how I could get this guy working like a good little hard drive should?

DANGIT!!! That sucks...
So would I maybe be able to get a pcmcia-to-usb converter or something? I would very much like to be able to use this thing for some extra storage...

It's an ATA-100 drive. You can use a 1.8" enclosure to attach it to your laptop by USB.

edit: just so you know, and as you can read at the store page for that enclosure, you can't use any 1.8" enclosure for toshiba drives, they are ATA-100 but the pinout is female instead of male like every other drive.

Dude, I don't think so... Eh, well maybe, I don't know too much about 1.8" drives, but the end isn't like a standard 2.5" drive. And I've seen many enclosures that say 1.8/2.5 compatible. Though I think compact flash drives can be directly converted to IDE...

Well, I found what I was looking for... it's exactly what I thought I needed - a 1.8" HDD enclosure on newegg.com
Apparently these cases are made for a 44-pin female adapter though, and my Toshiba HK** has a 50-pin female adapter...
Any suggestions on how else I may be able to connect this to my laptop (or PC) and use it as storage?

I linked an enclosure that should work in my first post, although you could apparently use an iPod.

Aaaaah... Okay, thank you. I didn't realize that the case you linked was for my specific model.
Thanks! That is actually exactly what I needed!
I actually got it from my mp3 player, but it has a weird connector and built-in software that makes the drive not want to stay connected.
Well, again... thanks.
