First of all hello all!! I would consider myself a beginner beginner at building PCs but I feel like I can do it and along with help here that I can get it done myself. I read the "101" threads and have a list of items I have picked for my PC, but I am wanting suggestions on what to get to lower the price and also let me know if I have compatability issues:

I think that is everything. I am only needing the tower and everythign that goes in it. I will also be getting windows xp OS. Total for this system with XP Home is $950 with out shipping and this doesn't include rebates coming back. I don't trust them too much. Again I am looking to maybe lower the price some. I will be some gaming, surfing, office documents, want to get into some video editing or making DVDs from video camera. Thanks for any help.

Looks good to me except the mobo, maybe rethink that one. The Asus and Gigabyte boards are better IMO

Which Gigabyte or Asus mobo will be good? Something around the same price as the one on my list. I heard these two were good. Again thanks for the help.

Well I am going for the Gigabye Intel motherboard - either 680i or P35 (most likely P35).

But I am waiting to build my system until after July 22nd when Intel cuts prices of the Q6600 down to like $250 and the E6600 will be even lower. So you may want to consider this too and not get the E6420 when the E6600 might be the same price next month.

I would like to wait but my PC a home crashed and its 6 yrs old so I am due for an upgrade. Maybe by the time I am set on my parts the prices will have changed. Probrably not. Thanks for the help

Ahhhhh OK, sorry to hear it! My 6 year old AMD Athlon 2600+ is on its last legs.

Well I was only suggesting that if you have time to wait you might want to.

:)

I may wait and see. If anything it will make my current line up less expensive. :) Mine that died was an Athlon 2400 I think. Oh and I had to get a new HD for my gf's Dell laptop last week. Got a Western Digital put in it.

You'll be able to get a better CPU for the same price after 22/07/07. Also, it's weird, at the beginning of the year my dad's AthlonXP 2400+ based PC died from a catastrophic PSU failure. Pity really as it was a good, but loud workhorse. It beat many more modern PC's easily.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am going to try and wait until 7/22 to get everything. Is it just going to be processors/CPU prices going down or will other items go down? I could go ahead and order items that will not go down and begin my build.

Come July 22nd the E6850 (3ghz) C2D CPU will be $266 and so will the Q6600.

If you get a motherboard that supports 1333 FSB you can get the E6850. If you want to future proof you can get the Q6600 (2.4ghz and 1066 fsb) and a motherboard that supports Quad Core.

I am currently deciding which CPU to get so I can't help you with that.

E6600 prices might drop as well, but not sure. I would assume they would (makes sense).

I take it that the CPU will most likely be the only item that the price will go down. I will make an updated list of components later today to see how everthing looks. I am almost set on Windows XP for my OS b/c I have heard that Vista has a few issues still. Is this true or should I go ahead and get Vista?

well im gonna get the q6600 without a doubt when the price cuts down on 7/22/07.

yea like others said if you dont have that much time the build looks good but how about a asus p5n-e sli, and for gpu i would go with a 7900gs, 8600gts, or radeon x1600 or radeon x1900

Also vista is not bad at all. If you know how to use a computer its not bad. I have that mobo as i described and vista home premium and i dont have any problems what so ever. I had vista for about 2 -3 months

my current LCD uses a VGA/d-sub port so my graphics card needs to have a connection for that. So which is better the one in my list or this one:

Well I would still say the Asus Cuz mine never gave me problems. The graphics card should be alright

I have heard quite a lot of complaint about Asus MB are HOT!
Also, I think he will not SLi, that's why I suggest GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R in the first place

I may SLi! But I think I need to read on what SLi is.:) Is it something that is necessary or something that I can plan on needing in the future? I have also read that the ASUS mobo run hot too. Like I said I am a beginner, beginner at this. I think once I get all the components I want I can get the computer together without a problem. Then I will probrably wear out the search function on here and ask alot more questions about getting the OS going and so forth. But hey an unasked question is a dumb question. Thanks again for the replies.
