I have a question, Im building a new computer and need a card that supports DX10. The question comes in at the specifications between the cards. The 8600 seems to have better clock speeds? Why is 8800 80 dollars more? Im considering just buying two 8600's. Last thing is, which model/brand w/e should I buy i.e. Leadtek?

but thenwhy is the 8800 gts better and $80 dollars more is it bc its DX10 ready ???????????? bc it would seem the 8600 is far much faster then the 8800 by what specs he listed ??????????????

All the 8xxx series cards are DX10 compatible.

The 8800GTS is the better card by far. The key difference is the 96 stream processors vs the 32 on the 8600GTS.

Yeah, like me and Ceewi1 said, the 8800 is by far the better card, to be honest, I wouldn't even consider an 8600 for DX10 gaming.

kotonowski have you ever used a 8600?i have an 8600GT and it runs games very well Best card you can buy for its price range. and good for games. I max out day of defeat source :P and Counter-strike source :P

No, I've never used an 8600.

I think there are plenty of better cards for the same price... I'm not saying it's a bad card, just that there are better and I don't think it will be that great for DX10 gaming, but I may be wrong. :)

If you want a DX10 card, go with an 8800GTS 320MB or better. For the price of the 8600 you can buy a much better DX9 card.

When DX10 games become more common, the 8600 wont even play them on high settings.

Last time i checked an 8600gts was similar in performance to a 7900gt in DX9. I don't think you can buy a "much" better card for the same price.

Regarding the second comment.. Hasn't the R600 taught any of you a lesson? Assume nothing fellow geeks! My low-mid range 7600gt can play the " graphic card eating" Oblivion maxed. There's a difference, the 7600gt was released during dx9 and not before like the 8600. But come on.. Nobody here has even an idea of what's to come. If i were to look back on some of these posts in the future, i'm sure to get a laugh or two.

You are right, the 7900GT and 8600GTS are pretty much on par in DX9 games.

But since the 7900GT's arent sold much any more, the 7950GT for $160 after MIR would be it's real competition.
