Hi all,

Now would an upgrade from a Socket A AMD Sempron 2800+ @ 2Ghz to a AMD Athlon™ XP 3200+, 2.2 GHz be worth it?

http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-AMD-Athlon-XP-3200-2-2-GHz-AXDA3200DKV4E

would i notice a huge improvement?

i think the Front Side Bus Speed is faster on the Athlon 3200+ so would my Pc3200 memory run at its full potential because i think my cpu is slowing it down.

Now i know you guys are probably thinking why is he even bothering lol,But i just cant afford a new pc right now so:(

Thanks

You know what. I would upgrade to an Athlon 3200+. They are awesome cpu's and although they are fairly outdated, they still pack a bit of punch.;)

i was thinking if i could get one cheap you know then i would upgrade it.

My system doesnt realy lag that much since i put the gig in,But i do notice sometimes if im playing warrock and have WMP11 running at the same time listening to music the game can lag a little.

But warrock is a laggy game anyway lol so it mght just be the game because people pings are so high sometimes causing lag for everyone:mad:

I don't know if the extra 200Mhz would help all that much, it may do, it depends how much you can get one for?

Uh oh. I always thought the higher the Ping the faster the game... is it the LOWER the ping the fasteR?

yes it is, its the time it takes for a packet of data to reach the target computer. So the lower the ping the better the connection to the computer.

yeah ive asked my mate if he can get hold of a used Socket A Athon 3200+ because he get them of someone he knows...he just brought a used 2.4Ghz Northwood for £20 for his other machine.

Dunno if he can get me one though :(

Well, I guess if he can, they it may be worth it, I think you'd see a little difference.

If you could get it for £20, then I say go for it!

well he paid £20 for the Northwood intel so i dunno how much he would want for a 3200+

Hhhmmm, I rekon it'd be around the same price, if not a little bit more...

It's up to you though really, if you plan on getting a new build, then I'd wait, If you can't for a while, then I'd go for it :)

What do you know, Tom's Hardware benchmarked the two processors ;)

Thanks for that link...

i changed the benchmark to 3D mark o5 - CPU

And theres quite a big jump:rolleyes:

The 3200+ on there says Barton, though and my sempron is a Thoroughbred b or something....is Barton 3200+ a socket A processor though?

YES YES YES! IT MAKES IT FASTER! you can OC them fairly well too. remember, Ghz don't matter, Pipe lines do. they are so short that the Socket A Athlon XP 2.2GHz out preforms the P4 3GHz. Barton Core makes it all the better for overclocking.
