Laptop Advice

I am looking to buy a notebook. I am starting medical school next year, and will need a computer that I can bring to class next year and basically carry around every single day wherever I go (so the lighter the better).

For school purposes, it will mostly be note taking/running some decently large programs/surfing the internet.

For home purposes, it will be used for mostly surfing the internet/listening to music/watching movies in bed.

My biggest thing is that I often run Itunes, have TONS of internet windows open, and run programs as well... so I would like a computer that can handle it without slowing down too much.

My budget is either going to be around $1500 or $2000, I have not decided how much i want to spend when i am already going into hardcore debt with school.

Any options/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The more the better... honestly. I am not partial to any brand, although I am not a huge fan of Dell.

I wouldn't get a Dell. They're not durable enough in my opinion for daily carrying around every single day, every where you go. I feel like I have to baby mine just by picking it up off the desk.

I know they're not the most honored laptop, but the Sony Vaio is built like a brick, and I think you can upgrade them through the Sony website, but I've never tried.

DONT GET A DELL. mine is the inspiron e1505....i HATE it.

i would go with Acer or Asus....i have heard nothing but great things about them. and their customer service is unbeatable.

for durability i would suggest lenovo lappys...but they're expensive...i have an Acer and it does the trick so that's my suggestion

I've had two dell laptops in the past and have had excellent luck with them, they aren't built quite as well as they should be, but then again i live by the "it'll work if you love it" not the "i'll love it when it works" point of view. So i baby all of my computers hand helds ect... (ha, can anyone guess what movie i quoted?) That hp i put on is pretty sturdy, my friend has one and he isn't the most careful person in the world and it's seemed ok so far.
