Windows boots at an acceptable speed. The problem occurs after the blue login screen. I'll select my name and log in just fine. It doesnt take to long to "Load my Personal Settings". Then it shows my desktop with all the icons. This is where my computer hangs up. It will sit at my desktop showing me all the icons and the windows start bar for about 5 minutes before you can do anything. During that 5 minutes, you can click on stuff but it wont open until after that 5 minute period is up. After 5 minutes, everything works like a charm (or at least like an Athlon 2000 should.)
Originally, I thought this was happening simply because I have an AMD Athlon 2000+ @ 1.7 ghz but recently I went to a friends house and after he logged in his desktop was usable almost instantaneously. My friend has an AMD Athlon 2800+ @ 2 GHz but he also has less RAM than I do. His computer isnt that much better than mine is it?
Yes I have read guides on how to "increase your log-in time" but those dont seem to fit the problem. This happens after I log in.
Thanks for the help,
JAke
