Activating Windows - Getting rid of it *need help!*

I haven't reformat my computer for since i got it, and planning to reformat tomorrow night. When installing a fresh new windows XP, i will need to activate windows again, i probably have to phone microsoft and get a new key etc...

But i don't want to do that. I heard you copy some file from the windows folder called wpaln or something.

I want to make sure which file(s) i need to save before i reformat. Anyone know?
 
You get more than one activation per CD-Key, so if this is one of the first couple of times of you reinstalling then it wont be a problem, it will 99.9% probability just activate again

I just went to the Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder webpage to check it out. I clicked to download the latest version and I was redirected to download.com to download the file. Once the file started downloading, Avast Antivirus gave me a warning that it was a Trojan! Whether or not that is true - I don't know, but I thought I'd pass the info around.

Yes, you can do that and it is legal since it will only work on the same you computer in which windows xp is installed right now.
Here is the info you are looking for:
Backing up your WPA.DBL file

However, if you haven't done any major multiple hardware changes since you first installed windows, then you should have no problems just reinstalling and letting windows activate itself (like dragon2309 said). So, you really don't have to worry about backing up your wpa.dbl file. I reinstall windows once a year and have never had issues with activation.

I forgot about that. I have had it read as a trojan too, because it access your license key. I have never had a problem with this program. But caution is recommended. It works well, but use at your own risk.

And he's looking to format anyway. To be safe, unplug your internet connection and run the program, then format and reinstall.

yeah im pretty sure it will activate again...i must have activated mine at least 20 times lol with no problems at all :)
 
As long as its the same computer dont worry about it, it will activate without having to call. Your more likley to have to call if you do alot of hardware changes
 
At this time it's far easier to activate XP then it was when it was first released. When having to reinstall Vista a third time here as well as XP Pro on a new drive the activation was automatic online without a need to call MS. If you reinstall Windows too many within a certain amount of time then you would have to call in.

For a first reinstall after how long? just make sure the installation goes well for the drivers and aoftwares with Windows working good before going to activate. That will save on any hassles there in the event something goofs up when installing a fresh copy of Windows.
 
calling india didnt take that long. is just painfully hard to understand what they're saying with them accents.

Yeah, if you do a major hardware change you will more than likely have to call, they usually give you an activation code fairly quickly if this is the case though. You also have to call if you try to activate more than once in a short period of time.
 
After rebuilding them I have had to call, you just tell them some kind of crap like a Big Green Monster jumped out of the closet and threw it down the stairs:D Just joking dont reallly do that, most of them that answer the phone would not get it and think your serious:cool:
 
With Vista the activation is now automatic as soon as you connect online unless unchecking one box during the installation and manually going for that later. With the same hardware and being only the second time Windows was even installed after this amount of time just make sure the fresh install goes is working before activating it and you shouldn't even have to call in.

The operator who answers will give you a number code to enter in at the Run prompt to have another number code appear. That is read off over the phone where you are then told to enter a new set for activation that way. If you do have to call in sometime it goes fast. That happened here once some years back when reinstalling Windows too fast and found something goofed. :confused: Since that time MS is more interested in seeing Windows validated and online activation has been made a little easier. As long as you haven't been swapping hardwares out you should be activated in an instant.
