laptop AC slot broken

Hey guys, in the back of my Inspiron B130 laptop the AC slot is broken. I put my powerchord in and it wont charge or work. I had a problem a month ago with the AC chord, it completely died, but is not the same case here. Once the AC chord is in the slot it needs to be pushed to the left very hardly to even work. My computers warranty is up and I dont know what to do. I think the AC slot needs to be replaced but $150-300 doesn't sound to good.

look at the picture:

Does "This" get hot?

I dont know that word in english. BTW What do you call it in english.

I dont think so... I think the umm... (oh darn I forgot what it's called!) that great big black box gets hot.

I thknk its the "connector"

Sometimes the output gets hot, yes. But its usually the black box that gets hot. How did you get your laptop fixed mate?

I had to get mine replaced when it broke in the way you described. The device is an AC-DC rectifier and transformer.

I've found many laptops have similar ac adapters. Replacing a dead one shouldn't be too hard. I actually have two others that match my Averatec; one being an HP charger, the other being a generic charger. As long as the volts are correct and it has at least as many amps as the previous, you should be fine. The polarity and plug/tip must be the same, but that can be changed easily.

As for the plug in your computer, I broke the solder points in my laptop before. Depending on your laptop, it can be a fairly easy fix if you have some soldering skills. However, it could be a deeper problem. Perhaps something with the internal power board...

That is what my problem was. i opend my computer and the solder came lose. But When i did it, i fryed my mother board. So get a good fine tiped solderer and dont let it sit on the motherboard too long. Thant is the cheep way. you could probily take it to the geek squad and tell them it is the connector and they may do it for 1/2 the price you said above.
