hello, i want to install counter strike source onto a removable harddrive, if i can do this i will buy a removable hrad drive :)
thanks lee

you should be able to without trouble.

a removable drive is no different from a regular drive, except its removable.

Insert the drive and when it ask where you want to instal it point to the drive letter... :) This doesnt mean it will run any faster. It also doesnt mean it will run on any PC from that drive. It installs other files to other directories aswell.

for the most part, games install misc files into the system dir of the pc which relate to graphics stuff.

like how gta-sa needs a d3dx9_31.dll to be downloaded from the internet and put in vista's windows/system32 dir since they don't include it on the cd

well, not exactly like that, but somewhat.

so if i wanted to play it at collage i would have to install it every time i changed pc?
Well, you could install it on the drive on PC #1, then delete the install directory on the removable drive, and install it exactly the same on PC #2. That should keep all of the files in sync because both c:/'s would have any files they needed.

I'm not SURE about that though... but it seems like it would be the way to go

There are usually registry entries and other things that the install process does so with most games you have to run the installer for it to work, you can't just move the program folder to different PCs

but actually installing it two times should take care of that, right?

Yes if you install it on any PC where you want to use it it will work. Installing it to a removable drive then moving it around usually wont work though.

what about if i installed it on comp one, and then unistalled it and then reinstaled it on pc2 and kept this cycle going evrytime i go onto a diffrent computer, this would work right?
