Got the Sapphire 2900XT and am wondering if it would really be worth getting a second. ATi state that their new Catalyst 7.6 will add 40% more performance to the 2900XT when in crossfire, I don't dout this as with the single card I run HL2 4xAA, 4xAF at an average of 139fps I have heard alot of mixed reviews on crossfire with this card, but from what only people have read. If there is anyone with this card in crossfire and has any opinions on it, it would by much appreciated. Cheers.

maybe u should wait a bit until the price of this card drop by like 20-30%by the end of this years and get another one for crossfire. seriousely unless u playing some insaned game which atm I dont see any game can take up to 2 2900xt to play in the high setting.

Sorry, don't think that I made myself that clear. Obviously, it is better when in crossfire, but what I meant to say was, when in crossfire it gives 40% more performance when using Catalyst 7.6 over Catalyst 7.5, not 40% more performance over a single card, if you see what I mean.

If the prices are going to drop like that, I think it would be well worth it. I want the 2 cards for mainly playing DX10 games.

I've got a review of that card in a magazine i brought last week. As a single card, it manages to fit somewhere between the 640mb 8800GTS and the GTX. But in crossfire, the card doesn't render 3d objects as well, and in Oblivion the fields were purple!!
That said. It was on the previous version of CCC.;)

That's because of the drivers.. I had purple fields at one time too!

You should definitely consider a second HD2900xt once the prices have dropped enough. But if crossfire is anything like SLI you will only see a 40% increase in performance half the time. The other half will be between that and around 80%.

A few people I know have the 8800gtx/ and 8800gts (640) and in a few games the 2900 beats the gtx, only by very little but still, the gtx is twice the price. I have heard that alot of problems people are having with gfx cards are mostly to do with vista. I did have a few problems to start with but most seem to be sorted now. Anyone with the 2900 in crossfire would love to hear your thoughts.

wow 80%, I'm really liking the sound of that, I just tried HL2 Lost Coast on full settings (+ full HDR) but no AA and no AF (just to see how smooth it would be) and I hit an average of 218fps!!!

But in some games, HD2900XT performs worser than 8800GTS 320

The performance varies greatly from game to game.

I would say that the performance of HD2900XT on average is between 8800GTS and 8800GTX

the gtx is twice the price

No it is not

As far as I know the price of HD2900XT is about $400

8800GTX can be found for about $520

Even the price of 8800Ultra can be found for about $640 after rebate in newegg,

There is no way you need that much of a performance increase you FPS whore :D:P

Seriously though, it's when A hd2900xt is only getting 20-30 fps in games that I would consider a second one.. because 1: the average human can't tell the difference between 30fps and 50, And 2: it'll be so much cheaper.

Just some objectivity. :)

have you even looked at black text on white background for five hours with an old monitor that had a refresh rate of 45??? if not then you dont know the meaning of headache... yeah, you can definetely tell the difference hahaha
