ok i can go into the hardware wizard, everything looks fine there, it says my 80GB hard drive is recognized and working fine, but why cant i get files from it? it has no shortcut in my computer, search wont bring up any of the files i have on it, what do i do? (yes it is set to slave on the little pin things on the hd itself)

wait wait wait i just read omegas post in another thread with the same problem called 'hc recognition' i followed his steps about partitioning and reformating and its working right now. its formatting, (really slowly, but at least i think its working)

If the drive is formatting you won't be able to bring up any files that were on it now. Formatting erases everything on the drive.

well now that its done, there is nothing important on it lol yea i formatted it from my computer. as far as i can tell, it seems to be working now

To recover the data from inaccessible hard drive which requires formating can be done by using data recovery software. Try using Stellar Phoenix Windows Data recovery software a file and partition recovery utility which recovers the data from formatted hard drive, or data lost due to software malfunction, file/directory deletion, viruses or even sabotage.
To try the software download the demo version from: http://www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery.htm
