Need some advice on my college build...

I'm on a $2,000 budget for my college rig (printer and all) and this is what I've come up with...

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersio...e=College+Rig+(Help+me+out+and+rate/comment!)

Any advice would be VERY much appreciated... One thing I'm not too sure about is the ram I'm buying. Is 4gigs worth it? Or would it just be better to get 2gigs of really good stuff?

Edit: forgot to mention that this is supposed to be a pretty intense gaming rig...

To be honest with you, a guy tried to copy/paste the newegg basket earlier and it didn't work. Try and just paste indiv. link to the components instead. That way we can help you better. Welcome to CF and congrats on college...fun times!

Fixed the link so it should work now.

It's a public wishlist so I imagine it should be viewable. If it still isn't I'll post the individual parts (It's just a lot. x.x)

Looks good bro, only thing I might change (besides what chup said) is the keyboard. I like the eclipse 2 better. I used to have a reg. eclipse, but I like the feel and especially look of the 2. I mean who in their right mind doesn't like 3 different colored lights?

Looks good to me.
However, I haven't heard of the brand of your monitor....
Will you wait until 22/07 to get the new CPU?

I've taken some advice from all over... I purchased my chassis and monitor from other sources which saved me some good moolah. Now I have about $150 extra on my budget. Any idea what I should spend it on? The wish list is updated.

I like the gigabyte P35 boards... I decided to keep it despite a few suggestions not to.

I've also never been a huge OCer... I plan on OCing my mem to 900mhz 4-4-4-12 and my proc to 2.67 so I don't feel bad about not getting the E6700 but that's about it. ;P

what about a monitor?

also, OCing your RAM to 900mhz wouldnt give you a 1:1 ratio, therefore it might not be worth it

I ended up getting the Samsung 226bw off of tigerdirect.

and thanks for the heads up on the OCing... I really know little to nothing about it. Guess I'll have to do my homework.

if you want to OC this forum would be glad to help you along, but dont get frustrated if it doesnt work right away, bc it can be pretty complicated. on the other hand, it can also be really easy if everything works the way it should

I wouldn't get the Gigabyte P35C just get the normal one because it can only support the low speed DDR3 ram and by the time DDR3 ram is affordable it will be running at higher speeds that that board can support. On the 22nd all of Intel's prices go down so for $266 you could get the E6850 or Q6600 instead of the E6600. Lastly add some Artic Silver 5 thermal paste.

Just ask as many questions as you can.

It will be one of the only ways you learn.

Well what would be a safe and decent OC for the e6600 on my board? I don't understand much about this whole ratio between proc and ram... If anyone could point me in the direction to a basic guide that would be awesome. :D

most people can get 3.2ghz without upping any voltages which is good. here is what your settings would be in the BIOS

I am pretty sure the e6600 has a x8 multiplier (correct me if im wrong)

400mhzFSB x 8 = 3.2ghz
1:1 Ratio
400mhz RAM

now, that is truly giving you a 1600mhz Front Side bus and your ram is running at 800mhz, which is really good.
