Some questions about memory

Hello, I have a computer that i bought last year and I have put inside 1 GB of ram -
OCZ 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400,
Capacity 1GB,
Speed DDR 400 (PC 3200),
Cas Latency 3,
Timing 3-3-3-8
And I am wonding if I would add another let's say 1 GB ram to my machine with different timing would it slow my machine...?
And what would happened if I would add DDR2 with my DDR how would it effect on the preformance of my computer...?

For one thing DDR and DDR2 memory are two different things all together. You can't mix the two memory types. Buying 1gb of performance memory and adding that to 1gb of DDR400 value ram can cause obvious problems at times there. You want to match the existing memory as closely as possible to see working results.

There I would simply go with another 1gb dimm of the same OCZ memory. Then you can enable the dual channel mode as well as seeing a good match up. A second dimm with slower timings would drag the 3-3-3-8 down to the second dimm's timings if they work together.

DDR And DDR2 Motherboards are 2 completly different things

Asrock is one make with a few models out that will run either type of memory just not together. Those are more or less "go between" boards where you can still use DDR400 memory from your old board.

Didnt think that worked with DDR, I have a spare Motherboard

That you can change between DDR and SDRAM

You just cant use them together.

I think he means that you can use your old DDR memory and then eventually replace it with the DDR2, but you're right as you can't use both at once.
