Does anybody know if a Sony VAIO RB-43's Motherboard will take a dual-core processor?

Just like the question says. I don't know the specs of the motherboard, but I did try to find it, and failed. I aksed the technical support if they could tell me anything, and they simply refused! :(
Well that's too bad.
Anyway if anybody knows anything about it, please tell me!
I know that it's from Intel :P
I want to use the Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Allendale 1.8GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
Oh yea, and the Pentium D 9xx Models too.

First you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and a brief reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

That model Sony has been discontinued and no longer supported. This is the main reason why you couldn't get anywhere with their support. The specifications are seen at http://www.abtelectronics.com/scripts/site/site_product.php3?id=17480 which rules out the use of any Core 2 models for the older system there.

Oh. I think you might have selected a wrong site for it, since my computer is RB-43, but the one on the site is RB-38...

oh man. My appologies for brining up such a bad question.
I just went to the Intel's site and checked the tested motherboards for the Core 2 Duo processors, and as I guessed, it was not supported =(
Thank you everyone for your help!

The case with many systems, the motherboard is probably technically able to use it, but being unsupported, the bios was never updated for the later processors. I know this is the case with my laptop and I recall hearing the same thing for some Compaq and HP systems...

wait. i know that you're saying it could "physically" take it since it's the same LGA 775 socket, but you're saying it can't be used due to an old BIOS version?
Then does that mean I might have a chance if I update my BIOS?

I don't know the specs of your motherboard; if you have a chipset that's even compatible or anything... But yes. In the case of my laptop, people have altered the bios and made one that could accept newer processors...

I'm not saying any ol' bios upgrade would solve your problem, but it's possible.

well mine's 915G chipset from Intel

Yeah the 915 chipsets flat out don't support dual core, I think only the 945 and upwards sets do.

Yeah I thought so too...
damn... then does anybody know motherboards under $60 that uses DDR 400, otherwise PC 3200 memory module and uses dual-core processors???
It's so hard to find! Just because I'm not so good at finding those stuff.

I moved out of 512s ino 1gb dimms and am currently looking at 2gb dimms for the new build to see a 4gb totoal of DDR2 memory. If I can locate another XP3200 I can set up the build prior to this one with the old matched pair of Corsair xms series memory there. The one thing I hate about the Abit model there is the VIA chipset. If you want to go after a Core 2 model why not upgrade the memory as well? DDR2 800 memory runs alot faster!

I suppose that's a good idea, but it hasn't been so long since I bought the extra 1gig, so I guess I'll chill with Pentium 4...
Still, I'm gunna have to change it at the latest by next year, don't you think so?

The 2007 upgrade here was delayed by having a fan on the cpu cooler go and cook the cpu on the last build too fast. I still have a Zalman 7000b sitting around until a replacement is found there. While grabbing some sales lately for a new build that will run DDR2 will also see someone else upgraded from a 1gb of PC2700 memory to 2gb of DDR400 for the time being. Well at least the current build here had a good testing to prove itself.
