video card... can i choose anyone lol

i have a question regarding nvidia and ati cards. i dont know the difference (is there is one) and want to know if i can use either one. can certain pc's use either or, ooor is there no diffrence. im doing some shopping and have only been looking at ati cards for some reason, just want to know if i can use anyone.
 
you can use any one but i highly recomend nvidia since they have much better preformance but there are 3 differnt videocard bus that you have to check on your motherboard pci,agp,pci-express check out of those 3 what your motherboard supports before buying the card pci-expressx16 is the best then agp then pci is the slowest

ya i knew that part, mine is agp. 4x unfourtunatly :/ not to many 4x cards out there as i have found. Anyways thanks for the reply =D ooo and it looks like i am getting an ati card because its the only agp4x on the site im buying from
 
so yours wont support 8x thats wierd never saw a 4x motherboard but can you tell me what is your budget on a card i can give you the best peforming card for the price range and buy the way what is ur processor
 
Most any AGP card should work in any AGP slot. I've used a 4x card in a 2x slot, 8x card in 4x slots, etc etc... As long as you get an AGP card, any should work.
 
An AGP 8x card should work in an AGP 4x slot, it will simply run at 4x (which in general isn't a problem).

pentium 4 1.7GHz, my price range is low lol. under 70

i dunno man the documentaion on my mother board specifically says 4x only. is 4x and 8x and so on directly related to the voltage?

my mobo says 4x only, but everyone is telling me it will work. i ust dont want to buy it and have it not work.
