I was going to get a external hardrive but...

I was going to get a western digital hardrive ,
however after reading alot of the reviews on the 500 gig one that I am wanting on newegg.

There was a bunch of reviews saying it worked fine for a month then it just bombed, I cant have this


So I think a computer can have more than one drive , can it/>


I already have a 256 in my computer, could I had another 500 , without it slowing my computer down.

or what about my laptop , can laptops have more than one drive?

256 is an odd size. Are you sure that's not your RAM?

Regardless, laptops can use external drives as long as you have the correct ports. Most any should have USB, but there are some eSATA drives and firewire dries as well, which are less common.

I can't tell you which drive would be the best... I've heard of some lasting weeks, and ones like mine are still running after about 4 years! Read reviews and see if they are reliable... There's not much else you can do...

i just dont like the mixed reviews on that one.

Assuming we're talking about desktops here, an internal drive would be the best option. I don't think an external would be any more or less safe, but an internal would be the fastest.

Ifit doesnt have any fans then dont get it. I read alot of reviews about that external hdds overheated... so either add a fan or maek it internal.

is it as easy as buying it and plugging it in , or am I going to have to take it in to do it

The Western Digital MyBook, the Seagate FreeAgent and the Maxtor OneTouch devices are all good external HDD's with a fair bit of grunt. Note that Maxtor and Seagate are the same company.

well internal would be my choice but you can't beat the ease of having an external drive to use as you want... this one is a great deal because it has esata so it can run just as fast as an internal and you can't beat 500GB for 80 bucks... my gf has one and it runs great. http://ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=37614903

they have a 500gb maxtor at compusa for 109 right now though since mentions they're the same i wonder if the maxtor have PDR or just the seagate counterpart.
