demension 3000 problem

The processor on my 3000 (p4 2.80) is at/near 100% use, even when idle. Could this be a virus, or somthing like that?

press ctrl+alt+delete and go to the processes tab. then hit 'Prt Scr' usually located at the top right of the keyboard. open up microsoft paint and go to edit --> paste. save image as whatever you want, but make sure you save it as a jpeg(jpg). then when you go to post ehre, click the little yellow picture above the post box and insert the pic

Ya, get a Screenshot of the processes you are running. You may, have a virus. Can't be sure till I see the running processes. I don't always trust the readout on those little sidebar tools.

i checked, its the system idle processes

but, WHAT idle processes could i be running?

Idle is supposed to be that high... are you only looking at the Process taB? Take a look at Performance..

system idle just means thats the amount of processor that isnt being used. if nothing is using processor, that is at 100% (99% actually)

my old dimension 3000 does the same thing. its now a media center conversion project. anyhow, i woulden't worry if ur computer was still running at average speed. (for ur computer)

For one I can't see the CPU usage.. it's behind that white block that says 100%.. For two we know it runs at 100% you said it we don't need an image saying so. Go get hijackthis ( http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html ) then show us an read out from there..

A CPU has to be doing something so that explains System Idle process, it just pacifies the CPU while it is idle, lol.

Well, it doesn't seem like he told him to show us a picture, just told him to a look.. at the tab..

It's like what Intelcrazy said.. The System Idle Process does not slow down anything, just has to be doing something.. And how much of the system is on idle..
