Should I go with 800 or 1066Mhz?

I don't know which to go with, the stock FSB on the E6850 is 333.25 and if I get 800Mhz RAM /2 400Mhz, I OC the E6850 and try to match the RAM, which will give me an OC of 3.6Ghz.

Or, I could go with 1066Mhz RAM and have more OC'ing room, b/c it is 533Mhz. If I match these up, that would be an overclock of 4.79Ghz. I don't think it would make it that far. The 800Mhz RAM is $88 cheaper. What should I do? I might not even OC right when I get it.

If I go with 800Mhz, I might get Corsair Dominator RAM.

Thanks

I would go with the cheaper 800 RAM. The RAM doesnt determine how high of an overclock you can get with your CPU, as you can always lower the RAM speed.

the RAM speed does determine how high of an overclock the CPU will get if he wants to keep the multiplier reasonable and keep a 1:1 ratio

It would only effect it if he keeps the ratio the same, but you can lower the multiplier on the 800 RAM and achieve the same overclock.

well, generally the overclocking community will agree that a 1:1 ratio is best. i notice from your sig that you also have a 1:1 ratio.

It is the best to have, but thats not saying that having a ratio of 1:2 is much worse.

Right now I have the FSB set to 400Mhz, so i'm running a 1:1 ratio.

oh ok, i was just looking at your sig that says you have the memory at 950 (475) and your FSB at 1900 (475), thats where i got the 1:1. which btw is a really good overclock for the e6400 congrats

I would like to go up to 4Ghz in the future and change to 4Gb of RAM...

The E6850 is supposed to be the best OC'er of the E-series.

Looks good.. 4.0 seems realistic, especially since the e6850 is using a new core archy.

DDR1066 is the fastest ram you can use with a 1066 FSb mobo (and have it fully utilized), If you can find a cheap set then I say go for it.

Ya, I had it set on that but after an hour or two of gaming I would get some random restarts, so I lowered it a tad.

I heard the Dominator has been really screwed up since they changed the chip type, they say it goes out in about six months.... That's horrendous for that price:eek: I might go with the 800Mhz, get 4Gb of it, since I am in the x64 market.

I could get 2Gb 1066Mhz, wait and get another 2Gb later?
