I recently bought a Intel core duo extreme 6800 cpu with a single pci express slot motherboard. as im thinking of getting a second graphics card, is it possible to move a cpu from 1 motherB to another after its been used? or will this damage it??

Also, im running off a XFX 7600GT at the moment, if i get a second card, should it be the same in order to work properly? if not, does anyone have any recommendations on a good card around the $300 zone?

8800GTS 640MB is around $300 if I recall correctly, and yes you can move your CPU from motherboard to motherboard as often as you like. You just risk damaging it when moving it, but that goes for any part. You should properly clean and reapply thermal paste each time you remove the heatsink though.

I wouldn't get another card, I would just upgrade the 7600 you have, like Impulse said, get the 8800GTS, this will be far better than your 7600, or even two 7600's in SLI.

To have two cards, you have to be using the same card, could be a different make though, for example, you could have your XFX 7600 and a Gainward 7600. But you couldn't have an XFX 7600 and an 8800.

You could use both cards, but not in SLI mode, and therefor wouldnt get any perfomance gains in gaming. But you could use two different cards just to support more monitors.

He can use SLI if he gets an SLI board. And the one he has now only have one PCI-E x16 slot, so he couldnt use two.

To answer your question, yes you can move the CPU to a new motherboard. But I wouldnt get another 7600GT, I would get a higher end single card, the 8800GTS would be the best. But if you dont want to spend that much, a 7950GT is also a great choice.
