well probably (thats my personal view) with paid AV's you get support and upgrades etc..
With a free AV you don't get all that,you use it until it expires

I personally like free AVs, because they work as well if not better than paid ones, and AVG I know releases updates quite often.

Avast free ubdates automatically every day, and it has never let me down. It also protects your email.

Paid av's are clunky and tend to slow your system down.
