Computer Not Connecting To Network Properly

I just bought a Linksys network adapter today. I installed it according to the instructions and when I went to connect it said that there is "Limited or no Connectivity". I clicked on this for a more in depth explanation and it said that it could not connect because the router was not assigning a network address. I am using WPA-Personal encryption for the router and I am trying to connect with the "Windows XP Wireless Zero Wireless Network Utility". Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

make sure you have the proper passkey in the network properties of your wireless adapter. Also disable third party software if you are using windows software to configure your connection.
 
I have seen this on mine a few times. try to connect without WPA and see if you get a network address, try with WEP and see. note real sure what the cause is because mine just seems to resolve itsself after i change back and forth. i could be the firmware version or the version of NIC drivers.

I had this exact issue with a new Linksys router i had to buy and once i switch to no security and connected fine and then switch back to WPA it just worked :eek:

I have disabled the Linksys software and I have the proper passkey. I even tried disabling the encryption and it still did the same thing. Thanks for the help!

I forgot to say that it works fine on three other computers (Vista, Vista, and 2000). Thanks!

go to a coffee shop or something, library or whatever and update windows. There is an update that is required to work with WPA, you may need to manually jack your laptop in to your switch or revert back to WEP while you update.
 
oh well I just assume wifi = laptop

Jack it into a network somewhere and update it or disable security on your router for a short while to connect wirelessly and then update it.
