What should I buy?

Well doesn't matter if you buy a 8500 ram since it'll downclock if you put your old 2gb ram from corsair, if you're "throwing" away the old ram then the dominator
 
Have a link for the new board? The specifications will show the memory it supports. The Corsair xms series memory is the performance type there. And yes newegg's prices have been going back and forth lately. The cpu ordered was first seen for $222.99 and dropped $7 when going to order to see $169.99 a week later. A board for the FX-74 was seen for $329 and jumped to $407-!
 
Gigabyte like other makes do favor some brands over others. With Asus Corsair gets the boosts while Gigabyte promotes Kingston. Their chart shows the xms series as the manufacturer's recommendation there.
 
I'm currently looking at Kingston DDR2 800 Hyper X memory on a new build here. The faster memory will only backclock itself to 800mhz if it works out.

My mobo will support 1066Mhz and I am going for the Dominator!! How will the 1066Mhz backclock itself to 800Mhz when it supports 1066Mhz?
 
The product details and specifications seen at newegg point out the following restriction on 10066mhz memory.

Memory Standard DDR2 800
DDR2 1066 (Only support the memory on the Memory Support List on the official website)

What that says is that it supports DDR2 800 in general and allows for certain 1066mhz memory to be used. The board itself will run it while not fully supporting some of the faster memory is the notation there.

Okay, but tell me why anyone would want anything less than 2Gb of RAM that's 1066Mhz? Is there anyway to make it work at 1066Mhz?

when you first install the dominator it WILL run at 800mhz you need to set the timings and correct voltage.

so for dominators:

set memory clock to 1066 , timing to (5-5-5-15-2T ) memory voltage at 2.2V

I wasn't talking about the amount of memory but the capatibility with the faster memory. It wouldn't matter if it was 512mb, 1gb, or 2gb but whether the board will support the memory selected. It probably has more to do with the timings then anything else. But that was the information seen at both newegg and Gigabyte's support pages there.

I was talking about the stupidity of Gigabyte's PDF, 1Gb, if you aren't gonna go 2Gb, why get 1066Mhz? I was just trying to make Gigabyte seem ignorant.

So it would run at 800 until I went into BIOS and changed it to 1066Mhz and 5-5-5-12 or 5-5-5-12?
 
Without ocing the memory would run at the fastest stock speed by simply back clocking to 800mhz most likely. The caution seen was there was a limitation on the type of 1066mhz memory that could be used not so much on brand but type mainly timings by the look. That could be voltages as well. Keep these two things in mind there.
