Dual Channel?

What is better?

Running 1 Gigabyte of Ram in Dual Channel DDR 400 Ram (2 x 512mb Sticks)

Or

Running 2 Gigabytes of Ram in Single Channel DDR 400 Ram (4 x 512mb Sticks)

I only have 2 of the same Brand Ram, the other 2x512mb Sticks are Random Brands.

well, to be blunt, the brands dont matter for s**t unless you plan on messing with them in some way. the extra gb will surely help your computer

Personally I wouldn't mix. I would look into the latencies of the DIMMS and running voltages, if they are different I would recommend selling the 2 random DIMMs and buy the same model/make as the ones you have already got.

I agree with others, I wouldn't mix. Now I don't know exactly how much slower single channel would be, but I think I would prefer to keep RAM as fast as possible.
