How to install RAID 0?

I have one WD SE16 250Gb already and I am going to use Darik's Boot and Nuke to erase the contents of it. I am ordering another one with the same model number, and want to set up a RAID 0 array for my next PC. How do I do so? It will be Vista x64 Home Prem on a Gigabyte P35-DS3R.

Thanks

vista may already have your raid drivers. if not then you will need to load the drivers during installation. when you boot the computer there should be a screen where you hit something like f10 to enter raid. if not then you need to enable raid in cmos setup. select the proper raid setup and drives.

By CMOS, you mean BIOS, right?

I want multiple ppl to comment this, plz.

Thanks

same driver, different locations.

No, one goes in when Vista is installed, and the one you suggested, I don't even know. I would assume when Vista is being installed, that would make a lot of friggin sense to install it after Vista is installed:rolleyes: Still what is the difference, and what do you mean different locations?

Why is the one I found .23Mb and your is 13-something Mb?

Thanks

i know ill probably sound dumb by saying this, but what exactly does raid do? boost speed/responsiveness?

Intel ICH9R SATA RAID Driver
O.S. : Windows XP,Windows XP 64Bit,Windows Server 2003 32bit,Windows Server 2003 64bit,Window XP Media Center Edition,Windows Vista x86 (32-bit),Windows Vista x64 (64-bit)

(RAID) is an umbrella term for data storage schemes that divide and/or replicate data among multiple hard drives. RAID can be designed to provide increased data reliability and/or increased I/O performance

you set up the drives in the raid menu first before installing vista. vista you manually use the mouse to browse for the driver. only xp you have to hit f6 to load from floppy only.

So step me through it here, if you don't care....

Correct me if I am wrong

Setup drives in RAID menu
Install Vista
After Vista is installed, locate driver and install

You configure your RAID in the RAID BIOS of the RAID controller which will appear during the boot strap process of your machine, it will say hit F2 to enter RAID set up or F10 or whatever.

Create your raid, then boot off the OS and install the OS like normal. If vista doesn't support your RAID controller (don't be surprised if it doesn't) you'll need to hit F6 at the beginning of the windows installation and load the controller's drivers from a disk.

vista doesnt ask for f6, theres a load drivers button that you click to browse for th driver. or you can slipstream it into the drivers folder but i doubt you want to do that.

vista is suppose to scan for drivers from all media last I read, but alas I have not tried to run a RAID 0 on a desktop in vista.

Why are you actually running a RAID?

Faster performance, I want to match a Raptor, what do you guys think? Floppy or USB flash?

Thanks
