PC upgrade recommendations?

Hi,
I am currently using Windows Vista Home Basic, with the integrated ATI Radeon xpress200 series graphics card that came with my AMD 64 3500+ computer.

I would like to upgrade my graphics card, what would you recommend? I prefer $100 or less options, but any or all other options for reference is fine.

This will provide you with the most robust options and be more than sufficient for light gaming, it is 30.00 more than your price range. It will certainly give good HD out, ATI is the champ in that department.

Thank you, this sounds good to me, but what about a new monitor to replace the old CRT i am currently using? A LCD monitor in same price range to take advantage of the upgraded video card?
 
The card i posted is extremely cheap, usually going for $150 and up.

Also you don't really need a video card higher then $150 if you're running Dx9.
 
ionno id say get a 7900 gs for like 130$ I mean te way it is now even if you have a nice graphics card like 8800 gts you won't be able to run crysis or any of the dx10 games to it's full potential, so you might as well get the most bang for your buck now, and then upgrade further on.
 
Why is the ATI 2600XT worse than the 8600 for gaming?


Also...What do you think of SAPPHIRE ATI X800XT PLATINUM EDITION 256MB graphics card, although it's on the pricey side?

I'm not sure that the 8600gt is more powerful than the HD 2600xt, and I'm too lazy to look up benchmarks. Maroon1! I bet you'll do that for me? :) kidding.

The entire x800 series of cards lack shader model 3.0, which is a rather large hindrance these days.
 
yet still i read somewhere you had to have the right power supply for graphics card. Say your card need 3V and you have motherboard supporting only 1.5V, your motherboard could overload and burn out!

I have an Amberine M motherboard by ASUSTEk,inc.

I like the recommended choices of graphics cards already posted, but just want to be sure that any of them will be fine and not have the potential problem of screwing up computer in any event, given it's installed correctly.
 
A PSU is like a backwards transformer..converting AC electrons into 12.0, 3.3, 1.5 volt DC electrons, which is what a standard computer accepts. So while you won't run into a case where you need 1.5 and only have a PSU capable of 3.3, You can run into problems if your PSU's Wattage is too low or the amperes on a certain (most likely the +12v) line is insufficient.
