hello i am expierencing lots of problems with my dell dimension 8400 series heres the specs:
Pentium(R) 4 (whatever the R means)
4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99GHz
-1.0GB RAM
-80GB HD
-JUST had 2 512's of memory put in.:o

Problem 1- once i got it back i learned not to have someone fix it for me i should do it myself but anywase they re-loaded everything on the PC then my pics fav's were all added back on, they re-installed all the O.S's and everything, i am now getting a blue error screen about every 72 hours of run time on the PC it says to take out any recently installed programs, well they were ll recently re-installed so i dont know what to do now.

Problem 2- I am also having pages disapear on me like when i hit the back botton or click a link within a page ect...what would cause this

Problem 3- I am also trying to download my program Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Every time i put it in it comes up with a box that says Adobe Photoshop and it stays blank eventually it wont X off so i have to turn the PC off by the power botton.

i also need to say yes im a dummy and am using my PC with NO anti-Virus nor Spyware, i am in need of re-updating my norton anti-virus soon as i can

And yes whenever my pc starts up it says your computer has 1 item affecting your status

PLEASE any help would be GREATLY appreciated:(
thanks much
Jeff
And most of all do you guys think this PC is worth fixing up??

I think you would Benefit from a Reformat again.

It sounds like you have had a system file crash/stuff up.

Go Start
All Programs
Accessory's
System Tools
System restore

(From Memory)

And see if you have any system restore points at a time when the problems started occuring.

Problem 2 = I get this occasionally too, Expesially on Computer forum. I think its something up with my Internet Service Provider.

All your problems would be fixed by a Clean Reformat.

Do you have a Spare Hard Drive anywhere?

That computer is pretty good, What do you use it for?

Are you using On Board Video?

That would be the only thing i would upgrade if i was going to upgrade.

The Pentium(R) Thing, The (R) just means Registered Trademark.

Well what a helpful guy! props for you K3rupt!! :-)
well my mom bought a lap top recently so this pc kinda fell in my hands :-) and love it. I dont have a spare HD i plan to buy a new burning drive and burn all my pics and what i want to keep on to disks then discard of all that info once they are on disk.

I dont understand when you ask if i am using on board video?? i believe you are talking about a video card? if so i still am using the origonal one.

And do you reccomend a professional to re-format it for me?

Also i do not see "System Tools" under all programs

If you want too learn how too do it, There are Plenty of Tutorials on the web.

If your still not sure, i can write out how exactly do it for you if you want. Not tonight tho.

It's in Accessorys, Under System tools i think.

As for the Onboard video thing, When you plug in your Monitor do you plug it in too a Dedicated Card, or does it plug in somewhere Vertically in the back of your computer (motherboard)

Ok I See What You Mean Now. So What Is The Process Of Restoring My PC? and how long will it take. if i an rite this will take it back to that date. what all will it delete? like Everything I Added Between Now And The Restore Point I Pick? Fav's Downloads Newly Added Pics. All Of That? Sorry For Bad Punctuation In On My Cell Phone.

Cool, Wish my Cell could Do that.

I Quote from a Previous Post from PC Eye

What this does is backclock the system registry and installed programs to the state the system was when the restore points was created. If you see a bad install of some new program this is one way prior to using other methods like a repair install to recover from that.

One problem often noted about this is the limitation to the current calendar month you are in. In other words you can't restore the system back to a day in june since those restore points are now gone after the first of the month. In fact the lack of seeing more new points created more frequently is a selling point for EasyDesk Software's Setpoint used to manually create new ones at any time of day or night for their retail program. If your system contracts a virus the first thing to do is turn off the restore feature to see all restore points deleted to prevent reinfection later once the system is cleaned up.

Ok, To do this

-Start
-All Programs
-Accessory's
-System Tools
-System Restore

Then

-Leave the Circle thing Ticked on "restore my computer to a Earlier time"
-Then look for like "system Checkpoint"

Click Next

Follow the Prompts

ok im going to restore it soon whats the process? is it easy for a newb? and do i have to re-install anything?
jeff

It's easy as too do, you shouldn have any troubles.

By the way, you may have to install SOME programs. I know i had to install about 4 when i did a restore to about 2 weeks ago. . . .

Like What Did You Have To Install? Were They Normal Programs? Do You Suggest Me To Buy A Burning Drive And Dump All My Pics To It And Music Then The Programs I Do Not Have A Back Up For Like The Origonal, Like The Burning Program. I Will Load That To Disk Then Once Its Clean I Will Do The Restore? Or Should I Restore It Then Do What I Stated Above? Jeff

It wont delete any of your pictures,

Say you installed a program (just for example purposes, Nero)

And you restored to the day before you installed Nero, You would have to Install Nero again.

Photos, music AREN touched.

Agreed with K3rupt. Another reformat will do wonders. The moment you get it up go to Avast.com and download the antivirus, install , and restart. Otherwise this sounds really like an faulty RAM issue.
